ITC - Level 2 Thermography
The five day level 2 training course prepares you for qualification as a level 2 certified Thermographer.
You will learn about topics in Infrared Thermography to both deepen and broaden your knowledge about infrared physics, heat science, infrared measurement equipment and its application. As a Level 2 Thermographer you shall provide guidance to category 1 personnel in the areas of equipment selection, techniques, limitations, data analysis, corrective actions and reporting.
In order to attend a Level 2 Thermography Course, you shall
- hold a valid Level 1 Thermography certificate.
- prepare a case study to be presented at the Level 2 course and submittedtowards qualification at course closing. Details and guidelines on the case studywill be issued 2-3 weeks prior to the course start date.
Introduction to Thermography:
Review of Level 1 Thermography.
Temperature:
Conversion factors between Kelvin, Celsius, Fahrenheit.
Heat & Temperature:
Convection, conduction and radiation – Radiation Laws.
Thermography:
Blackbodies, emissivity. Planks, Boltzman, Newton, Wein’s laws Optical filters, optical materials, anti-reflective coatings.
Atmospheric transmission and attenuation. Detector technologies and calibration.
Measurement techniques.
IR Measurement Systems Overview:
Details of different thermal imaging camera parameters including, NETD, IFOV, MFOV
IR Windows and Window Materials:
Window measurement formulae, spectral transmittance of different materials.
Transient Thermographic NDT:
Transient Thermographic methods analysed.
ITC Certification Test:
ITC qualification test to be held on last day ofcourse.
Please bring with you a scientific calculator, your laptop with software loaded and your Thermal Imaging camera as they will be used extensively throughout the course. There will be some reading required during the evenings.

ITC - Level 1 Thermography Course ISO18436 PCN
ITC offers certification training to recognised standards and is an accredited Authorised Training Organisation (ATO) for the British Institute of Non Destructive Testing (BINDT) as per the requirements of ISO 18436. BINDT is an accredited certification body offering personnel certification against criteria set out in International and European standards. This course prepares you for qualification as a category 1 certified thermographer. You will learn about the basics of infrared, how to operate the camera under different conditions and for various purposes, how to do an appropriate judgement of the measurement situation in the field and identify potential error sources. You will be able to do IR inspections following written guidelines and to report the result of this inspection.
Introduction to Thermography:
History; benchmarks; applications including electrical,Mechanical, Building, Medical and R&D. Camera technology overview from older scanning systems to modern day FPA's.Explanation of camera operation and how the cameraconverts radiation into an image.
Heat & Temperature:
Heat and measurement; contact v non-contact temperature measurement. How radiation is converted into temperatureand an introduction to heat transfer.
Infrared Theory Basics:
Scientific Laws relating to : conduction, convection, radiation, blackbodies, Transmission Emissivity, Reflectivity &Calibration. Practical demonstration of these heat transfer modes with follow up theory.
Measurement Techniques:
Atmospheric & Environmental considerations including Distance, humidity, air temp and Reflected Apparent Temperature. How to measure them and setup the camera correctly.
Basic Heat transfer theory:
Temperature definition and measurement, thermodynamics, heat and temperature, heat transfer, conduction, convectionand radiation.
Camera Measurement tools:
A look at cross hair measurement, Area box/ circle, colour alarms and specific dew point and insulation alarms.
Camera/Software familiarisation:
Hands-on camera experience throughout the course. Camera practice using portable simulated labs; integration of images with Reporting software; creation of reports.
ITC Certification Test:
ITC qualification (50 question multiple choice test) to be heldon last day of course.
BINDT Certification Exam optional:
ISO18436 PCN CMGEN APPB 60 questions Multiple choice.

Non certification ITC courses
Getting Started with thermography £160+VAT.
This course gives an introduction to customers operating entry level cameras. The focus is put on the camera and localisation of thermal anomalies.You will also learn how to deal with the surrounding conditions when performing simple temperature measurements, how to store your images and how to use them in reports.
Introduction to Thermography £319+VAT.
Full one day course for customers operating entry level cameras. The content includes basics of thermography, basics of emissivity and reflected apparent temperature, introduction to electrical and industrial inspections, camera handling, software installation and test. This course includes around 2 hours of camera hands on looking at manydifferent materials then an overview of report writing software.
Electrical survey and measurement for Thermography £319+VAT.
This course gives ageneral introduction to IR thermography and an overview on its specific use for inspections of electrical LV and HV systems. It aims at giving you clues on what you can do with your camera. Basics elements such as Ohms law will be covered along with discussions on case studies and typicalfaults found.
ITC Short Course Building Thermography £319+VAT
This course gives a general introduction to IR thermography and an overview on its specific use for inspections of buildings. It aims at giving you clues on what you can see with your camera. Subjects covered are conduction, convection and radiation, basic building envelope, building structures, damp and mold. A look at typical building problems and how to identify them along with surveying guidelines and reporting.
ITC short course for HVAC thermography applications £319+VAT
During this course you will be introduced to various heating systems before you learn about typical faults and how thermography helps you to locate and analyse these. Emphasis is put on case studies, selected from the field as well as practical exercises.
ITC Advanced Building Science (3 day) £935+VAT
This course is designed for operators who want to become advanced users within building thermography. Experience within thermography is mandatory . Experience of buildings is a plus. The content includes insulating materials, 1-D heat transfer in a composite structure, conduction resistance, air – wall interface, U value for simplified structure, temperature profiles, thermal bridges, thermal indexes, transient heat transfer, thermal inertia, comparison of various wall structures, humidity, dew point, vapor permeability, vapour barriers and air leaks.
Level I and Level II Certified Training Courses:
Level 1 Thermography ISO18436 PCN £1700+VAT
This 5 day course prepares you for qualification as a level 1 certified thermographer.
